CHICAGO -- Bob Errey and Doug Brown scored second-period goals and Mike Vernon stopped 29 shots as the Detroit Red Wings continued their mastery over the rival Chicago Blackhawks with a 6-2 victory.

Vladimir Konstantinov had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, who have won seven of their last eight games. Detroit, which is 3-0-1 against Chicago this season, is 10-1-1 in its last 12 regular-season meetings with the Blackhawks, including a 6-0-1 mark in Chicago.

"We played solid, it was a tough game," Detroit coach Scotty Bowman said. "They're (Chicago) a well-coached team. They have a lot of energy and we're both similiar teams...we rely on our defense and have a few game-breakers."

Roenick was asked if the Blackhawks just don't match up well with Detroit.

"We match up very well with them if we play our game," he said. "Don't ever say our team doesn't match up with them. I'm not making excuses, but don't ever say we don't match up with them. We have to make sure we're ready to take that next step. We gave up some bad goals and they capitalized."

"I wouldn't call it domination," Keith Primeau said. "We match well against them. They have some speedy guys and so do we. I think they were a little sluggish tonight becuase of their games with Colorado."

Vernon, appearing in consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 15 and 20, improved to 14-7-1.

Jeremy Roenick and Murray Craven had goals for the Blackhawks, who have dropped five of their last six games. Chicago hasn't defeated Detroit at home since Oct. 23, 1993.

"We didn't do a thing, other than early in the second period when we went after them physically and created some chances," Blackhawks coach Craig Hartsburg said. "One and six is a terrible record through our last six games. This was our worst game of the six. I'm not very happy that we stunk tonight, but I'm not losing confidence in what we can do."

The Wings took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Marc Bergevin and Steve Yzerman. Bergevin's first of the season and first in 87 games at the 7:29 mark opened the scoring and Yzerman's 32nd, with eight minutes left in the period, made it 2-0.

"It's nice to win after we lost last night," Bergevin said. "We try to get to loose pucks so we can go on the offensive. There is no reason why we dominate the Blackhawks. We know if we don't play our best game, we won't win."

Konstantinov scored a fluke short-handed goal 4:15 into the middle period, extending the lead to 3-0. Konstantinov stole the puck from Chicago's Denis Savard in the neutral zone and broke in on a 2-on-1. His pass was deflected by a Chicago defenseman's stick and past goaltender Jeff Hackett for his 10th goal of the season.

"We talked a lot about last night's game on the way in," Primeau said. "We wanted to put together a great performance. We wanted to make sure we didn't give up a lead like we did the last time in here."

Roenick scored his 31st goal of the season, a power-play tally 23 seconds later, on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle, drawing the Blackhawks within 3-1. Craven's 15th goal, 93 seconds later made it 3-2.

Errey banged in Greg Johnson's cross-ice pass at the left post at the 9:07 mark to make it 4-2 and Brown put in a rebound from the slot with two minutes to go in the period for a 5-2 advantage. Errey's goal was his 11th and Brown's was his eighth.

Nicklas Lidstrom's power-play goal, a blast from the point, with 2:37 remaining closed the scoring.
